Providing Access to Healthcare
A 48-year-old female is only able to work part-time as she cares for an aging loved one. She started coming to the Community Clinic of Southwest Missouri, a United Way agency, about three years ago with a multitude of health problems including untreated diabetes, chronic pain due to arthritis as well as depression.
The clinic was able to get her on insulin to manage her diabetes, provided physical therapy and orthopedic assistance for her arthritis and connected her with counselors to address her depression. Today, all of her conditions have improved and she feels more capable of helping her family and participating in life.
Funding from United Way of Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas helps the Community Clinic of Southwest Missouri provide access to general medical and dental care for those who are uninsured.
